Georgetown Basketball: Defiance (VIP)
After the loss at Xavier, Ed Cooley had a strong message for the Big East.
It's been a couple of generations since we've seen a Georgetown coach so defiant.
After Georgetown's 74-69 loss at Xavier, head coach Ed Cooley started the press conference in the same way he's started most of his press conferences.
He praised the Big East for its toughness and complimented the opposing head coach (Sean Miller) for having the team prepared. He spoke about the Hoyas' youth and the injuries (in this case, Jayden Epps).
But when you looked at Cooley's body language, this one felt different.
You could see he wanted to get something off his chest.
At first, I thought it would be about the verbal confrontation with a fan after the final buzzer. The incident, if you want to classify it that way, would later be addressed on X.
I knew it wouldn't be a John Thompson II type of "us against the world" defiance. If we've noticed something with Cooley, it's been an inviting nature that embraces those of us trying to provide content about the program.
The program has long disappeared from the face of the Earth, both locally and nationally. To Cooley's credit, he didn't want engagement with the media to reflect a world that still had the Berlin Wall erected.
He's been more Glasnost than Politburo.
