The Washington Commanders scored 21 points in the most Commanders way possible—seven field goals.
But as the popular meme says, "A win is a win."
Washington responded to its season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 21-18 win over the New York Giants.
The game's ugliness wasn't just Washington's inability to score touchdowns. It was also penalties and the failure to cover a rookie wide receiver.
Washington committed ten penalties, five of which came pre-snap. The Commanders gave Brian Daboll's crew plenty of opportunities to wrestle away a win on the road without its field goal kicker.
The Giants drafted Malik Nabors in the first round of this year's draft, and the Commanders set out to justify NY Giants GM Joe Schoen's pick. Nabors had ten receptions on 18 targets for 127 yards and a touchdown. If that wasn't enough help for Schoen's decision-making, Saquon Barkley's replacement, Devin Singletary, ran for 95 yards on 16 carries.
