In the first half, Virginia and North Carolina State’s offense wasn’t a thing of beauty. In the second half, the Cavaliers cranked it up on both sides of the floor and ran away with a 90-61 win.

Thijs De Ridder finished with 19 points.

Paul McNeil Jr. led the Wolfpack with 22 points and six rebounds.

NC State’s Shot Selection

NC State is going to be NC State when it comes to shot selection but early on, it was buy one get one free on bad shot selection.

The Wolfpack started off 1-13 from the floor, which helped Virginia go on a 12-0 run and lead 15-5.

NC State finished the first half shooting 18.2% from the floor.

Early in the second half it improved. NC State was operating more in space and that allowed for a better shooting half. The improvement couldn’t offset how bad NC State was on defense.

Three-Point Difference Maker

As Jacari White has gotten healthier, his ability to turn a game on its head increasingly shows.

Tonight, White was 4-6 from the field, 4-5 from three, and finished with 15 points.

On dribble penetration, White’s defender can’t leave him. When defenses get in rotation and he’s on the one defending two side of the floor, he’s deadly. When Virginia pushes the ball, White gets to the three-point line in space, and he turns a fast break into a three-point possession.

Going into March, this becomes a “get out of the second weekend” special when the three-point shot can make the difference between having a chance at singing “One Shining Moment” and going home to finish out the semester.

They wanted a terrible ending for Mayweather Jr., especially after he won the long-anticipated fight against Manny Pacquiao.

There was every excuse, including the old “if they fought earlier in their career” mantra.

For the last few years, Mayweather Jr. has run a fight promotion business rather poorly, with a mix of exhibitions.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao has occasionally fought real fights and has been impressive against respected opponents while doing everything possible to get Mayweather Jr. to agree to a rematch.

Finally, Pacquiao’s patience has paid off.

The Hoyas have lost four in a row with all the losses coming by seven points or less.

The Golden Eagles have lost three in a row, all by eight points or less.

KJ Lewis (15.3 ppg) has scored in double-digits in six games in a row.

In his last two games, Nigel James Jr. has scored 30 (vs. Xavier) and 25 points (vs. St. John’s).

The Hoyas are favored by 3.5.

Georgetown went to Newark hoping to flip the script and win a close one against a Seton Hall team that, at times, has been offensively challenged.

Once again, Georgetown was in a close game, and unfortunately for the Hoyas, the script wasn’t flipped.

With 9:30 minutes left, Georgetown (13-14, 5-11) was leading 43-37. The Hoyas would score four points the rest of the game in the 51-47 loss. The Pirates remain squarely on the bubble.

Georgetown shot 27% from the floor. Seton Hall wasn’t much better. The Pirates (19-9, 9-8) made 31% of their shots. Seton Hall was 0-18 from three.

Cole Certa led Notre Dame with 37 points. Jalen Haralson missed the game with an injury.

North Carolina lost Caleb Wilson earlier this week and before Saturday’s game with Pitt, the Heels found out they would be without Henri Veesaar.

Without the two big men, the Heels made their first eight shots from the field and never looked back in the 79-65 win over Pittsburgh.

Seth Tremble and Jarin Stevenson both had 19 points. Zayden High scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, both are career-highs.
